Il mio nome è Asma Nakhwa, e voglio condividere la mia esperienza come rifugiato e la nostra vita prima e dopo. Ho lasciato l'India da un anno con la mia famiglia, mio marito, 4 figli e mia madre anziana. Abbiamo dovuto lasciare il nostro paese perché le nostre vite erano in pericolo. Mio marito stava lavorando come giornalista e come assistente sociale ed è stato minacciato da parte di un’organizzazione che rapisce i bambini e li utilizza per la tratta di esseri umani. Avevamo appena attraversato un giorno di terrore come dei nostri amici i quali sono stati bruciati e mio marito è stato rapito e hanno tentato di ucciderlo. Siamo stati minacciati e finanziariamente eravamo disperati. Non conoscevamo il futuro della nostra casa e di noi stessi o cosa ci sarebbe successo se fossimo rimasti. Abbiamo lasciato il nostro paese portando pochi vestiti e pochi soldi. Tutto il resto è stato lasciato in India. Siamo arrivati in Germania. Siamo stati qui in un campo per 6 mesi.

Abbiamo affrontato una situazione orribile lì, con me sono venuti i miei 3 bambini piccoli e mio marito, mia madre e mia figlia maggiore sono state separate da noi. Faceva molto freddo non avevamo mai affrontato questo tipo di clima, i miei figli si ammalarono e dopo alcuni giorni in qualche modo ci siamo riuniti tutti ed è stato un sollievo. Abbiamo avuto un momento difficile perché eravamo senza soldi, senza casa, senza istruzione, senza vestiti. Un anno in India e questi 6 mesi in Germania sono stati la parte più terrificante e peggiore della nostra vita. Poi più tardi con l'aiuto e la Guida di alcune brave persone che abbiamo conosciuto siamo finalmente venuti in Italia. Qui in Italia abbiamo vissuto un'esperienza molto positiva. Il clima in Italia e’ lo stesso come in India e le persone qui sono generose , buoni di cuore, amorevoli e premurosi. Il giorno che siamo arrivati qui abbiamo avuto un posto dove vivere. In una settimana i miei figli sono stati inseriti a scuola.

A mia madre è stata data un’assistenza medica e abbiamo avuto tutte le comodità di cui avevamo bisogno per iniziare una vita normale. Qui in Italia la gente ci ha dato una spinta, una speranza per iniziare una vita normale e ci ha incoraggiato a non mollare mai. Ci hanno dimostrato che la vita è ancora buona e ci ha aiutato ad uscire dalla nostra sofferenza. Amiamo essere qui in Italia anche se iniziare una nuova vita in un nuovo paese non è facile, ci stiamo adattando alla nuova situazione apprezzando la grande opportunità che abbiamo avuto di rimanere vivi e al sicuro. Vorrei solo dire: “I rifugiati non hanno scelto di lasciare i loro paesi e la vita che amavano” probabilmente prima che le cose sono diventate peggiori. Avevano semplicemente bisogno di salvare la propria vita e fare ciò che è meglio per loro e le loro famiglie.

My name is Asma Nakhwa, and I want to share my experience as a refugee, and our life before and after. I left from India I year back with my family, my husband, 4 children and my old mother. We had to leave our home country because our lives were in threat. My husband was working as a journalist and a Social worker and he had a threatening from the organization who use to kidnap children from many state and countries and put them into begging and human trafficking. We had just gone through a day’s in terror as our prey were burned and my husband was kidnapped and attempted to murder. We have been threatened and financially despair. We did not know the future of our home, ourselves or what would have happened  to us if we stayed, if we to would even live to see another year. We just left from our country carrying few clothes and few money. Rest everything was left by us. We arrived some now in Germany. Stayed there in a camp for 6 months.

We faced horrible situation there as I came with my 3 small kids and my husband my mother and my elder daughter was separated from each other. It was very cold there we have never faced this kind of weather before my kids became sick after few moths some how we all family got united it was a relief. We had a tough time because there was no home, no money, no clothes, no education. I year in India and this 6 months in Germany was most terrifying and worst situations of our life. Then later with the help and guidance of some good people we got to know about Italy and we finally came in Italy. Here in Italy we had a now a very good experience. The weather in Italy was same as our home country the people over here are generous, good hearted, loving and caring. The day we arrived here we got place to live. In one week my children got admissions in school.

My mother was given medical care, we had all facilities which we need to start our normal life’s. here in Italy people gave us a push oh hope to start our normal life and encouraged us never to give up. They proved us that life is still good and helped us over come our suffering. We love being here in Italy although to start a new life in a new country is not easy, we are adapting to the new situation appreciating the great opportunity we had to stay alive and safe. I would just like to say. Refugees did not choose to leave their countries and the lives they likely loved before things became worst. They simply needed to save their own lives and do what is best for them and their families.
